梵文《長阿含經》不僅在攝頌顯示了巴利《長部》不同的特性(漢譯《長阿含經》的譯文並未出現攝頌),梵文《長阿含16經》也出現巴利《長部28經》與漢譯《長阿含18經》所無的「內攝頌」。

攝頌分「篇章攝頌」、「經攝頌」與「內攝頌」。
1. 「篇章攝頌」:以各篇章的名稱結為攝頌。如《法集要頌經》卷1〈正信品 10〉:「無常(1)及欲(2)貪(3),放逸(4)與愛樂(5);
戒(6)善行(7)語言(8),業(9)信(10)為第十」(CBETA, T04, no. 213, p. 782, b28-29),為「篇章攝頌」,用以紀錄《法集要頌經》前十品的次序。
2. 「經攝頌」:大多數以十經為一攝頌,但是,漢譯阿含也有少數攝頌僅含五經或多達十二經;。如《中阿含經》卷1〈七法品 1〉:
「善法(1)晝度樹(2),城(3)水(4)木積喻(5);
善人往(6)世福(7) [5]日、車、漏盡七」(CBETA, T01, no. 26, p. 421, a10-11),七日(8)車(9)漏盡(10)。
3. 「內攝頌」:單一的一部經涉及多項內容,用以協助背誦。印順導師指出,此處為「內攝頌」:
《雜阿含58經》卷2:
「陰、根、陰即受 二陰共相關
名字、因、二味 我慢、疾漏盡」(CBETA, T02, no. 99, p. 15, b2-3)。
正確應作:
「陰、根、陰即受,二陰共相關;
名字、因、味,二我慢、疾漏盡。」
